A Perfect Setting for Weddings, Corporate funtions, Events - and a great family day out.

Powderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park setting on the banks of the River Exe, just a stone`s throw from the historic cathedral city of Exeter. The Courtenay family have been welcoming visitors to the Castle since 1959, and over the years in excess of a million people have been through the doors.

Very little of the Castle itself has changed since those early days, but there are now many more attractions in the grounds for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Planning Your Visit
It is always a pleasure to welcome visitors to Powderham Castle and we want to ensure you have an enjoyable visit. There is so much to see and do, tours around the Castle, walks and views across the gardens and grounds, meeting the friendly animals and even the chance to do a bit of shopping! Not forgetting hours of fun in Courtenay Fort for the under 12`s. Most of all you want to relax and savour the whole experience.

You are welcome to simply stop for a guided tour of the Castle, but if you want to do everything  we would recommend you allow up to 3 hours. Whatever your itinerary we will do everything we can to ensure it runs smoothly.

Secret Garden
The Secret Garden was originally the Victorian walled garden and is now home to the many friendly Powderham pets. Goats, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep, and stick insects to name but a few, live here in a blissfully happy environment and enjoy the company of visitors. The Garden is on a south-facing slope and has a glasshouse built by the architect Charles Fowler, which now provides a wet weather shelter for visitors and is used by the Estate to supply pinks in the Perfumed Garden, a lovely plant centre just within the Castle grounds.

Courtenay Fort
Children inspired by their visit to the 600 year-old real Castle, can let their imaginations run wild in the brand new Courtenay Fort, and play at being heroic knights and princesses - defending their prized fort.

Birds of Prey
Majestic Birds of Prey including falcons, hawks and owls will delight visitors of all ages with displays by expert falconer Karen Andriunas from the `Devon Bird of Prey Centre`.

Weddings and Civil Ceremonies
Powderham is a truly majestic place to hold your civil wedding ceremony and reception. We can cater from 2 to 170 guests and if you would like a larger occasion you can even put up a marquee in the Deer Park.

Corporate Events
Powderham Castle is an elegant family home. The Courtenay family have lived here for over 600 years and have a long history of hosting wonderful events and welcoming people to their majestic home. Powderham is recognised as one fo the Country`s leading venues. It has many unique qualities, ensuring memorable occasions for all who choose to hold events here.

Accessibility
The ground floor of the Castle is accessible to wheelchair users. A wheelchair is availabile for loan whilst in the Castle only, on a first come first served basis. The Secret Garden is accessible to visitors with wheelchairs and pushchairs, although there are some steep slopes.
